Alfa Romeo Tonale is the first plug-in hybrid created by the Italian car manufacturer. The main focus is to bring in an immersive, unique compact SUV experience. The design is very seamless, in tone with other SUV models from other companies, but also very luxurious and with some interesting features added right off the bat.
Transmission, engine and performance
What makes the Alfa Romeo Tonale different is that it has 2 different powertrains, yet every model has all wheel drive. The standard unit comes with an automatic, 9-speed transmission and a 2.0 turbocharged inline four engine. This delivers 295 pound feet of torque and also 256 horsepower, which is extremely impressive for a product of this caliber. There is an optional plug-in hybrid that comes with a turbo 1.3 liter, 4-cylinder approach and an electric motor that’s mounted on the rear axle. In total, this gives you a combined power of 272 horses.
Alfa Romeo Tonale also has a six speed automatic and 15.5 kWh battery pack. This is said to deliver around 30 miles of driving range, more than enough if you are left out of gas. What’s interesting with the Alfa Romeo Tonale is that every model has an independent suspension. There is an optional adaptive damper system, if you want to go down that route, which is something to keep in mind.
Interior and comfort
Within the Alfa Romeo Tonale you will have a dashboard which is very driver-centric. You have a 12.3” digital gauge cluster, and the wheel is a 3-spoke unit, very different to what you will usually find in other models from the manufacturer. On top of that, the interior mixes microsuede with leather and an aluminum trim. You have the red contrast stitching too, which adds a lot of style as a whole.
The 10.3 inch infotainment system is fully configurable, and you can have up to 5 different profiles to choose from. There’s also Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, as well as wireless phone charging, which are extremely helpful.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale stands out with its amazing features and amazing look, and it’s also very fast. The car can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds. Another thing to note is that it will have a full charge in 2.5 hours too. The Alfa Romeo Tonale is set to arrive in 2023, and the standard version is expected to cost $38000.
